Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO's) are an integral part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered in New Hampshire's Schools and CTE Centers.
CTSO's provide students with the opportunity to gain leadership and life skills as part of their career and technical education programs.  These skills include decision making, problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork essential for successful job performance and community service.
There is something for all CTSO members as they prepare for their chosen career. CTSO's help young people become community leaders through local and state projects.  Organizations receiving support from CTSO's include Muscular Dystrophy Association of NH, (CHAD) Children's Hospital at Dartmouth, NH Make A Wish Foundation, David's House, Homeless families in NH, NH Humane Society, NH Veterans Hospital, NH Head Start, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,  Local Red Cross Blood Drives, Feed The Children, and Every Child Is Ours, to name a few.  Students put in thousand of community service hours and raise thousands of dollars each  year that is donated back to the community through community service projects.
CTSO members have the opportunity to develop leadership skills though their class curricula and projects.  These skills are supplemented with activities such as career competitions, educational symposiums, networking and workshops held at state conferences.  The state conferences also include competition in skills such as public speaking, problem solving and demonstration of specific skills (e.g., food preparation, automobile repair, cosmetology, etc.).  Students who successfully place in state contests receive awards, prizes and scholarships and are eligible to attend National Career Development Conferences to compete with students from throughout the country.

Each CTSO consists of local middle & high school chapters with teacher advisors.  Each organization then elects State Officers who oversee statewide activities such as Fall Rallies and Spring Career Development Conferences.

There are seven CTSO's in New Hampshire chartered through their respective national organizations.   The seven CTSO's in New Hampshire are:

  • FCCLA - Family Career and Community Leaders of America
  • FFA - An association of agriculture students
  • HOSA - Health Occupations Students of America
